Professor Dr M Monir Hossain
is working in the department of Neonatal Medicine, NICU & Critical Care of Pediatrics at Bangladesh Institute of Child Health (BICH) and Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is also the Chief Consultant
and Pediatric Cardiac ICU
of Universal Medical College and Hospital Ltd (Former Aysha Memorial Specialized Hospital)
at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
After completion of MBBS, Prof Hossain obtained DCH in 1990, MD (Pediatrics) in 1997 and FCPS (Pediatrics) in 1999. He has got PhD from Dhaka University in 2006 for his research work on Critically ill Neonate Treated in Intensive Care Unit. He worked and got advanced training in Neonatology from Southmead Hospital, Bristol and Hammersmith Hospital, London UK. Thereafter he has achieved Fellowship from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK (FRCP, Glasg) and Fellowship from Royal College of Physicians of Ediburgh, UK (FRCP, Edin) in 2009 and became Fellow of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK (FRCPCH, UK) in 2010.
After coming back from UK Prof Hossain
began working to gradually improve the Neonatal services at Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital and Critical Care Pediatrics (NICU, PICU, CICU)
at Universal Medical College and Hospital Ltd (Former Aysha Memorial Specialized Hospital) providing the best services possible and innovating to do the best work and maximize extremely limited resources.For more tha a decade he has been involved in several multi-site and multi country research projects with Johns Hopkins University, USA and Imperial College, London, UK as PI and Co-PI.
He has authored more tha 35 publications in peer-reviewed journals at home and abroad mostly related to Neonatal Sepsis and Critical Care in Neonatology
. He is the author of 4 books in Neonatology and Pediatrics. Prof Hossain
is the Secretary General of Bangladesh Society of Pediatric Critical Care, a forum for Neonatal, Cardiac,Renal and Pediatric Critical Care Specialist in Bangladesh
